February 8, 2010
CaribWorldNews, MIAMI, FL, Mon. Feb. 7, 2010: At least one Haitian American NFL star was celebrating after last evening`s Super Bowl.
`Who Dat` you say? The New Orleans Saints` Jonathan Vilma of course. The Saints, once dismissed as the `Aints,` marched into history with a 31-17 win in the 44th Super Bowl in Miami, Florida.
It was a first for the team and for the former Jets star, who had insisted he hoped the win would inspire Haitians affected by the Jan. 12th earthquake.
The Saints` Drew Brees, who signed with the team from San Diego, tied a Super Bowl record with 32 completions, the last a 2-yard slant to Jeremy Shockey for the winning points with 5:42 remaining. The quarterback was also chosen as Super Bowl MVP. Saints defensive back Tracy Porter also helped his team to victory after intercepting Peyton Manning`s short pass across the middle intended for Reggie Wayne and returned it 75 yards for a touchdown.
